Platform 3 - Roma Street Station

What an awesome morning!  The Brisbane Urban Sketchers met at Platform 3 to sketch today for our Sketchout Tuesday.  It just happens to be Queensland Rails 150th Years of Rail Celebration week. The architecture of Platform three has been loving restored, and it just magnificent.  Work on portions of it is still undergoing, but a large area was open to the public as a museum.

The train on display today was the 1901 - one of the two self propelled diesel railcars- SRC’s.
The 1900 class, (1900 and 1901 as the railcars were designated), were placed in service in 1956. In the early 1960’s, 1901 worked on country and suburban services. Between 1983 and 1985 it worked on special parcels and freight business, also on railmotor services, outside of Brisbane, and on the Ipswich-Helidon railmotor service in the early 1990’s. 1901 has also been used on special charter tours for enthusiast groups  and has travelled throughout Queensland.  1901 today is used as a rail inspection vehicle by Queensland Rail.
